Estemerwalt Lumber Adds Kiln-Dried Decking and Deck Framing Products

KDAT Lumber is Lighter, Resists Warping and Can Be Stained or Painted Immediately

HONESDALE, PA. (Sept. 24, 2024) – Estemerwalt Lumber Products now offers KDAT (kiln-dried after treatment) lumber, a lightweight, durable wood that retains its shape and size and can be sealed and painted or stained immediately.

KDAT Brown Decking and Deck Framing Products join Estemerwalt’s extensive line of lumber available. Kiln drying removes up to 80% of the moisture in the wood as well as chemicals from the treatment process, resulting in lighter, drier boards than traditional wet or green-treated lumber. The process also fortifies the wood’s ability to retain its shape and size without significant warping, cupping or shrinking.

The wood can be sealed and painted, or stained, much sooner than wet or green-treated lumber, which can take up to six months to dry sufficiently.

“The KDAT lumber we offer is light, easy to use and attractive, and will last much longer than traditional products,” said Estemerwalt owner Kurt Propst. “And with a deck constructed of our KDAT products, a homeowner can begin relaxing, outdoor grilling or entertaining on their new deck as soon as it’s built. No need to wait months before it can be sealed.”

The lumber Estemerwalt offers features a traditional radius-edge profile and is prefinished in a signature rich brown color. At 1 3/8 inches thick, it is thicker than traditional deck boards, providing the ultimate in performance and stability.

The deck lumber is designed with grooves on the side so it can be installed with a hidden fastener system, as with composite boards. That feature, along with stress relief cuts on the bottoms of the boards, create a neat, appealing, flat surface.

“The KDAT Brown Decking and Deck Framing Products epitomize Estemerwalt’s commitment to providing high-quality lumber products for homes, decks and other amenities that homeowners and families can enjoy worry-free for generations,” Propst said.

Through five generations, the Propst family has been selling the finest in lumber products, many of them milled at the company’s mill located at its Honesdale, Pennsylvania offices. Estemerwalt has set the standard for excellence in log-home design. Estemerwalt also prides itself on unequaled personal service, its friendly staff and precision craftsmanship.
